  • PHILIP AZIZ CENTRE ANNOUNCES A SUBSTANTIAL CAPITAL GRANT TOWARDS ITS PROPOSED CHILDREN'S RESIDENTIAL HOSPICE
  • Philip Aziz Centre is very excited to announce that it will be receiving $ 2,068,000 in capital funding from the Provincial Ministry of Health (Long-term Care Division). This will bring the total raised to over $3 million towards the renovation and expansion of the Centre's proposed Children's Residential Hospice in Riverdale.

"We are immensely grateful to the Honourable George Smitherman and to the Ministry for its specific support for our project, and for its significant endorsement of hospice in Ontario." said Gretchen Van Riesen, Board Chair. "This direction of our tax dollars demonstrates the compassion of the Ministry towards hospice, and their recognition of this important cost efficient alternative to hospital care. We also sincerely appreciate the tremendous efforts of the Hospice Association of Ontario in helping us with this major achievement."

And while this brings the Capital Campaign objective much closer to its target, the Philip Aziz Centre must continue to build sustainability for its operating needs once the Children's Residential Hospice is opened.
Rauni Salminen, Executive Director is elated. "This grant is so vital to help meet the goals of our strategic plan and speaks to the Province's commitment for a Better Ontario for Families - opening our unique and evolutionary Children's Residential Hospice means so much to our caregivers who require respite or immediate medical attention.  They will have a safe and trusting place to leave their children."

"With plans being finalized for the proposed home, there is no question that this announcement has motivated all involved to move the process forward," said Don Pangman, who has been engaged with the fundraising  campaign and resource development activities for four years. "We have so many donors and volunteers who will see this as a tremendous link with impending success - we have much to be thankful for."
