Our Partners

Our partners are Dignitas International and Emmanuel International and The Rotary Club of Limbe.  Dignitas is a Toronto based organization started by James Fraser and James Orbinski some 4 years ago.  From its inception, Rotary has been involved.  In fact, their very first donation came from the Uxbridge Club.  Since that time, we have raised $550,000-$600,000 for them.  They focus on an integrated community approach in the prevention of, the treatment of those infected and care for the survivors.  Our work will expand their integrated community approach and could well serve as a best practices model for HIV/AIDS treatment in sub-Sahara Africa.  James Orbinski is the Past President of Doctors Without Borders and received the Nobel Peace Prize on behalf of Doctors Without Borders.  He is also the author of the best-selling book – An Imperfect Offering.  James Fraser also worked with Doctors Without Borders and was recently chosen as one of Canada’s Top 40 Under 40.  For details, go to www.dignitasinternational.org.  They have a staff of over 50 people in Zomba.

Emmanuel International is a Christian-based humanitarian organization.  The director in Malawi is Paul Jones, a Canadian.  He is also a Rotarian with the Limbe Club.  The Rotary Club of Limbe (a suburb of Blantyre) with whom we have an excellent relationship will also be involved.

Our main activity will be to work alongside local people and help build a childcare center, which will be used for many orphan and other childrens’ activities.  We will also help to create a community garden at the Zomba Hospital and we will participate in some of the Dignitas home-based care programs.  We are trying to connect with a school, which will allow us to teach and participate in other school activities.  We will also be very active in the Rotary/Dignitas soccer program, which we introduced earlier this year.  Also, of interest is the Rotary Club of Toronto in combination with other clubs and Emmanuel has established a water project in which 60 new or refurbished wells will be installed in the Zomba area.  We will be assisting with the instruction of good sanitation practices.
